Munawar Faruqui and Why is trending on Twitter? Comedian Munawar Faruqui on Sunday posted a statement on Instagram which ended with the comedian signing off as he wrote “This is the end. Goodbye! I am done.” hatred won and the artist lost, the comedian said after his 12 shows have been cancelled in the past 2 months because of threats he was receiving.

Who is Munawar Faruqui ?

Munawar Faruqui is an Indian stand-up comedian born in  Gujarat on .28th January 1992.

After the 2002 Gujarat riots, he along with his family shifted from Junagadh to dongri Mumbai.

In 2017 when India became aware of stand-up comedies through OTT  platforms, he began to work as a comedian.

When he was on his all India tour where he was performing in different cities. He performed a show at Munro cafe in Indore, Madhya Pradesh on 1st January.

Which was later interrupted by BJP MLA Malini Gaur’s son and members of Hind Rakshak Sangathan. They accused him of making jokes about Hindu deities and the Union Home minister Amit Shah.

On January 2nd Munawar Faruqui was arrested by Madhya Pradesh police in the middle of his comic act.

The police said that he was arrested on charges under section 295-A,  Section-298, Section-269, Section-188 and Section-34 of the Indian Penal Code.

The accuser is said to have overheard Faruqui rehearsing jokes that he was going to use in the act. His arrest was heavily criticized for not respecting comedian freedom.

On February 2nd 2021, a group of south Asian American stand-up comedians said that they will perform a virtual comedy show on February 6th to show their support for faruqui.

Later he was granted bail by the supreme court of India.

Police statement

The latest cancellation was his Bangalore show which was going to take place on Sunday.

Bangalore police confirmed that they have denied him permission as “Munawar Faruqui”  is a controversial figure.

Many Indian states have banned his comedy shows. It is learnt that a case has been registered against him in the Tukoji police station in Indore of Madhya Pradesh, the inspector of the  Ashokanagar police station said in his letter.

Recent update

Right-wing organisations including Sri ram sena and the Hindu janajagruti Samiti had approached the Bangalore city police commissioner alleging that Munawar Faruqui hurt the religious sentiments of Hindus by insulting their gods.

Before this Bangalore show, Munawar Faruqui’s goa show got cancelled as the organisers were pressured by the Hindu Janjagriti Samiti.
